Quick Update on Glaze Tests...
November 28, 2015
I have made a range of dildo's exploring the use of coloured slips (liquid clay), using commercially made body stains used in ceramics.Historically the colurants in glazes derive from metal oxides but with in the last century advances in chemisty have lead
to a greater rande of colours expanding the colour pallet for ceramicists, the only issue of the use of any of the colours in clay slips is that above 1150°C the colours will start to burn out and turn brown. This has ment I have started to use a low fired stoneware clay that can achieve it's maximum strength for durability while not burning out the colours with in the clay slip! The other benifit to the use of slips is I am now able to personalise the dildos this could be anything you want from names of the partner, a slogan (My Best Friend) and just about anything your mind can come up with!
The transparent glaze used needed modifying due to the glaze srinking at a diffrent rate to the glaze body that was producing a fine crackle to the surface of the glaze which could harbour germs which washing alone would not remove rendering it useless for the use on dildos, in the intrest of hygiene the glaze required modifying to remedy this which thankfully didn't take as much work as i anticipated and I am really pleased with the results, so I will be glaze firing all that I have already made :)
